LOUIS G GREGORY ACROSS AMERICA

Museum.jpeg

In the heart of a city infamous as the Cradle of Secession, a beacon of racial amity was born, helping to transform Charleston’s fame into the Cradle of Racial Amity in America.

Louis Gregory pioneered a particular orientation towards racial justice work in the United States - namely the work of racial amity - striving to forge what a racially just society may look like and helping individuals and groups work towards it. This was his role as a leader of the American Bahá’í Community as well. As his best-known biographer Gayle Morrison describes: “at the heart of the most challenging issue for the American Bahá’í community - the problem of obliterating racial prejudice - stands Louis George Gregory.”

The “Louis Gregory Across America” project aims to honor his legacy by encouraging friends from 104 cities visited by Louis Gregory over 42 years, in 38 states and 2 provinces, traveling over 10,000 miles. This project seeks to foster grassroots scholarship and collaboration among Bahá’ís from diverse regions, inspiring continued efforts for unity and justice. The effects of his saintly life will bear endless fruit in the changed hearts, uplifted spirits, renewed courage, and dedicated service he brought and continues to bring to the lives he touched.
